Saudi cabinet denounces ethnic cleansing against Rohingyas

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia on Monday reiterated its condemnation of the ethnic cleansing carried out by Buddhists against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and called for global action on the basis of UN and OIC resolutions to end the plight of the country’s Muslim minority.

The Council of Ministers, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, expressed the Kingdom's denunciation of the continuing policy of racial discrimination and ethnic cleansing against Rohingyas and urged the international community to address the issue on the basis the principles of universal human rights.

Culture and Information Minister Adel Al-Toraifi said the Cabinet also denounced attempts aimed to destabilize Bahrain’s security and stability, while commending Bahraini security authorities for thwarting a terrorist plot associated with foreign terrorist parties. It called for concerted efforts to eradicate terrorism in all its forms.

The Cabinet commended the content of King Salman’s speech while receiving anti-graft officials. It also appreciated the king’s decision to treat citizens who sacrificed their lives to prevent a terrorist attack on Al-Hussein Mosque in Dammam as martyrs of duty and to award them medals of bravery. It praised the unity and cohesion expressed by all groups of Saudi people to defeat terror. It hailed the Saudi military forces for their efforts to repel a Houthi attempt to penetrate into the Kingdom’s borders.

Al-Toraifi said the Cabinet reviewed preparations and operational plans by all government and private agencies to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come for Umrah. 

“King Salman urged relevant agencies to provide the visitors of the two holy mosques with all the services in order to enable pilgrims perform their rituals with ease and tranquility,” the minister said.
