Buthidaung, Arakan – A Rakhine man has been bullying and torturing Rohingyas in Buthidaung Township of Arakan state for a long time and the police denied filing a case against him.
On April 20th at 2 pm a motorbike taxi driver Mohammed Shaker S/o Nazir Ahmed from Latha hamlet of Aley Chaung village in Buthidaung Township was asked to hand over his motorbike by a Rakhine lout Aung Naing in Ward (7) junction. As Mohammed Shaker is earning money with that motorbike for his livelihood, he denied to give his motorbike to the lout Aung Naing. He was then inhumanely beaten lout Aung Naing at the place. One of his eyes was severely injured and he was unconscious for more than an hour.
Mohammed Shaker went to Buthidaung police station once he regained consciousness. The police at police station flatly denied filing the case against Aung Naing by giving reason that Aung Naing is a top RNDP (Rakhine Nationalities Development Party) member led by Dr. Aye Maung and is cruel. Mohammed Shaker was helpless and couldn’t seek justice through the law.
Aung Naing is physical educator at the primary school in Buthidaung. He has been bullying and torturing the Rohingyas for a long time. He took the motorbikes from Rohingyas and kept them for a long time and many were beaten by him. He asked for ransom whenever the owners ask for their motorbikes back.
The law is in the book in Northern Arakan State. There have been no justice for Rohingya victims. The police and military basically have a license to torture and extort money from them.
