Rakhine Lawyer Threatened All Rohingyas Could Be Killed Within 20 Minutes

RB News
January 21, 2014

Maungdaw, Arakan – A meeting was held at Maungdaw township administration office meeting hall from 10 am to 1 pm on January 20, 2014. The wards and village tract's administrators from 26 wards/villages. 5 elders of the community from each village were brought by the No. (4) police battalions management office chief police brigadier-general Tin Ko Ko.

Amongst the people who attended the meeting Arakan state police chief police colonel Nay Myo, Maungdaw district administrator Aung Myint Soe, Maungdaw township administrator Kyi San, district and the township chief.

Police brigadier-general Tin Ko Ko said police that sergeant Aung Kyaw Thein and his riffle is still missing. He continued to say that village administrators, elders of the community, religious clerics and villagers must find a solution must it must be reported back. Security forces will raid every village if they fail to submit a solution plan. It is important that the villagers must not shout if the security forces patrol the village. Serious action will be taken if anyone shouts while the security forces are patrolling.

The State police chief police colonel Nay Myo said the corpse of police sergeant Aung Kyaw Thein is believed to be buried nearby Duchiradan and Gawduthara villages. So, everyone is responsible to find the corpse and the gun and security forces in the villages will not leave until the corpse and gun is available to them. If the villagers do not find them, the security forces will surly increase.

District administrator Aung Myint Soe said wards, village administrators and village in-charges are a type of government servants. Therefore, all must collaborate with officials in finding facts about the police sergeant. After that he said that there is no Rohingya in Myanmar and that the term Rohingya can’t be used. He further said Bengali means illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and all of you are Bengalis. He gave this speech despite it have none to do with topic of the meeting.

An elder of the Rakhine community and advocate Aung Kyaw Nyunt repeated same as Aung Myint Soe, there is "no Rohingya in Myanmar and the term can’t be used." He said the war will begin like the ongoing war in Syria if the term Rohingya is used. The people (Rohingyas) will have to suffer like the people suffering in Syria. He threatened that all Bengalis (referring to Rohingyas) could be killed within 20 minutes even the population of Rakhines is 10% and Bengalis is 90%. The Bengalis must thank them for having shelter. He used several rude words during the meeting.

Although the meeting was held for the crisis in Duchiradan the district administrator Aung Myint Soe and advocate Aung Kyaw Nyunt talked some sensitive topics on ethnicity and religion to incite more violence in the region.

In the meeting the authorities only talked about police sergeant Aung Kyaw Thein and didn’t even mention about killing many Rohingyas in Duchiradan. The locals said the authorities arranged that the villagers escape from the village within the night. It was contrived to hide the crimes committed by authorities.

The villagers told RB News that they are willing to cooperate with police brigadier-general Tin Ko Ko and police colonel Nay Myo and willing to find out police sergeant Aung Kyaw Thein but they are seeking the justice for 8 Rohingyas killed by Duchiradan administrator Aung Zan Phyu and the women, children, men and elderly killed by security forces, Rakhine extremists and the 969 group in Duchiradan. And also they want the extortion, torturing and robbing by the Rakhine rebel group with the collaboration of Rakhine village administrators to stop immediately.
