ARNO Congratulates Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD

Arakan Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO) has welcomed the results of the by-election that took place in Burma on 1st April 2012. We congratulate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and National League for Democracy for a resounding victory in this by-election, a key test of political reforms in Burma.

We hope the government of U Thein Sein will make more positive changes in Burma’s transition to a democratic system. While there have been peace efforts with ethnic groups, the government and the mainstream opposition should recognize the fact that the Rohingya are an integral part of the Burma society; and their longstanding problem is a human tragedy of ethnic, religious and political persecution that calls for an immediate peaceful solution.
Admiring her courage and sacrifice towards establishing democracy and human rights in the country, we hope that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi would be a voice of the oppressed and persecuted Rohingya and for other voiceless people in order to eliminate ‘systematic racism’ in the interest of peace and justice in Burma.
